Thanking Your Contractors

What should be the reward for a job well done? When it comes to contractors, considering what they charge, one would think that paying the bill would be reward enough. But some people can’t leave it at that. Oh no, they have to accompany the final payment for that contracted service with some kind of greeting card.

Say What You Mean And Mean What You Say

Greeting cards don’t always have to be all lovey dovey. Maybe I would feel better about giving the contractor that just finished the job he was hired for two months later than he said he would finish it and at a cost that increased by the moment a greeting card if I could find one that said something on the lines of “thanks for finally wrapping it up–over time and over budget”… Or something like that. Or maybe “thanks for the memories—wish I could forget”. Catch my drift?

Greeting Cards For Independent Contractors

Here are some suggestions for Hallmark or any other company that wants to put out greeting cards that accompany the final payment for contracted services: Thanks for Supplying Me with a Tax Deduction-Much Appreciated; Thanks So Much for that One-Of-A-Kind Design (Even Though I’ve Seen It On 25 Other Houses Since); Sorry You Got Hurt on the Job, But Don’t Sue Me-That’s What Workman’s Comp is For; In the Words of Donald Trump—“You’re Fired”; Thank You! If There’s Ever Anything I Can Do For You—Like Micro Manage Your Business in a More Constructive Manner—Just Let Me Know. I can tell that I’m precariously teetering on the edge of sarcasm here, but you know what I’m talking about.

On the other hand, when you do actually want to celebrate a job well done by a contractor a simple thank you note is probably sufficient. I’m not sure that Hallmark has delved into the area of thank you notes for contracted workers be they independent or otherwise just yet. Possibly you could make that suggestion and get something like greeting cards for free for the rest of your life if Hallmark uses your idea.

There’s no reason to write your return address on envelopes anymore. There are more companies from which to get personal address labels than one can shake a stick at. They can be cute, clever and highly personalized. And cheap!

Not Just For Envelopes

Very often we send away for things and end up having to include a self addressed (sometimes even stamped) envelope. If you’re one of those that send away for things on a frequent basis, address labels are a must. Rebates that require you to write down your name and address, date of birth and so on are just a little bit quicker and easier with a self adhesive address label. Rebates are particularly popular now with all the crazy couponing that has become one of the latest fads around—and moneymaking fad at that. While we’re talking about saving money, as mentioned before, address labels can be purchased online or through mail order offers for a song. Along with address labels, matching stickers to put on the back of the envelope are frequently included. It’s a nice touch and since there included, what the heck?

Address Labels Or Address Stamps?

Some of the mail order offers that sell inexpensive address labels also advertise address stamps. It is a self inking handheld stamp that, rather than actually having to attach a piece of paper, you simply stamp on the area that requires your return address. Some feel that the ink stamp is more eco friendly but since you’re putting a self adhesive stamp on a piece of paper already; I’m just not sure that’s really an issue. On occasion you may have noticed that you will receive address labels from charitable organizations asking for donations.

What You Should Do After a Car Accident

Whether your area utilizes 911 or some other emergency service, that is the very next thing you do after an accident. Call them. Do not get out of your car if it is not safe. Try to help anyone in your car that needs attention. If it is safe to get out of your car do so and stay well away from traffic.

Does Your Contractor Accept Checks?

It seems like I’m always writing checks for something. Overpriced utilities, overpriced phone service, overpriced groceries, overpriced gasoline… I’m sensing a pattern here how about you? You know what really grinds my gears? Having to write a check for an overpriced contractor that took three weeks longer and he said the project would take.

Does Using A Contractor Save Money Or Waste It?

Doing it yourself is a great way to save money on projects around the house and yard. Doing it yourself and screwing it up and ending up calling in a contractor to fix what you wrecked is no longer a frugal decision. Calling a contractor in the first place would actually have saved money in a case like that. Don’t do it yourself unless you know how. And if you’re doing things around the house as far as building an addition or some serious renovating; make sure that you are familiar with building codes. A contractor will be more likely to know about building codes than your average man on the street.

Then Again If You’re The Contractor, How Do You Save Money?

You don’t want to skimp on supplies because, as tempting as it may be, your work is only as good as the materials you use. And god forbid something falls apart and someone gets hurt; now you’re going to court. Fortunately there are ways for today’s contractors to save money; and keep in mind please that it would be nice to pass those savings along to your customers.

If your contractor is willing to take a personal check it’s a good idea to use one so that you’ll have a record of payment. The same can be said for using a credit card however. Paying with cash is a dangerous practice because unless you receive a receipt; that contractor can say that you never paid.
